Arrow Video's Complete Dr. Phibes Coming June 9th

Check out the complete press release below

Love means never having to say you’re ugly

LIMITED EDITION TWO-DISC BLU-RAY RELEASE – 9th June 2014

Arrow Video is thrilled to announce the limited edition release of The Complete Dr.Phibes, which will include both The Abominable Dr.Phibes and its sequel Dr Phibes Rises Again. These exclusive sets will be limited to a run of 3000 copies only and include a 100-page collector’s booklet.

“What more could a horror freak desire?” asked Motion Picture Guide of The Abominable Dr. Phibes back in 1971. Arriving on Blu-ray for the first time in the UK on the 9th June, The Abominable Dr.Phibes sees Vincent Price in one of his signature roles, playing the wealthy and mysterious Dr. Phibes, a mad, disfigured genius, who elects to wreak revenge on nine doctors who failed to save his beautiful wife with a murderous campaign inspired by the Ten Plagues of Egypt. Phibes requires an elimination of disbelief more than a suspension of it. Filled with wonderful Art Deco sets, dark humour and a legendary performance by Vincent Price, The Abominable Dr.Phibes and its sequel Dr Phibes Rises Again have since gone on to become classics.

Featuring a bumper crop of fantastic extras, this exclusive set will include Dr. Phibes and the Gentlemen, an all-new discussion with the League of Gentlemen in which they fondly recall these two British horror classics, the featurette Daughter of Phibes in which Victoria Price discusses her father Vincent Price’s career and The Doctor Will See You Now, an interview with Vincent Price’s biographer, David Del Valle.

Alongside this, the Blu-ray extras include two audio commentaries on The Abominable Dr. Phibes, the first with the late director Robert Fuest and the second with Dr. Phibes creator William Goldstein, moderated by his son Damon Goldtsein, curator of the official Phibes website. Dr. Phibes Rises Again includes and an audio commentary with critic and author Tim Lucas.

The discs will also include the original trailers for both films, plus an exclusive 100-page collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the films by Julian Upton, Martin Jones, Justin Humphreys and Jonny Trunk alongside the on-set recollections of Caroline Munro, plus interviews with Tim Burton and AIP publicist Milton Moritz.

Synopsis:
“Nine killed her, nine shall die, nine eternities in doom!”

Horror legend Vincent Price (The Fall of the House of Usher, Theatre of Blood) is Dr. Phibes, former musician, current murderer. Seeking revenge from the medical staff that left his wife for dead, he sets about knocking them off one-by-one in a series of elaborate murders based upon a Ten Plagues of Egypt. Death by bats, by boils, by blood and more await the nurse and surgeons who failed to save the life of the beloved Victoria Regina Phibes!

A camp classic, The Abominable Dr. Phibes sets itself apart from the seventies horror crowd with its knowing humour and art deco sets, and also prefigures the Saw movies with its increasingly fiendish set of murder devices.

Pairing the original film with sequel Dr. Phibes Rises Again, The Complete Dr. Phibes provides viewers with a double diabolical dose of macabre thrills and black comedy.

Vinegar Syndrome has just announced three upcoming Horror titles on Facebook:

"Figured we might as well announce the horror titles we recently licensed. They are DEMONOID, RAW FORCE and THE BEES."

Good to see some new horror stuff coming from Vinegar Syndrome. Especially Raw Force, one of the most wonderfully dumb movies I've ever seen. I love it.

New International 'Lucy' Trailer Is Insane

Good to see Morgan Freeman finally getting some work.

V/H/S Viral Trailer Promises Plenty of Scary Shit

The Cannes Sales Trailer for the third V/H/S film has hit the internets today. It'll be hard to top the second one - or more specifically Gareth Evans' incredible Safe Haven segment from the second one, but I've enjoyed the first two so I'm certainly down for this one. Check the trailer below:

Two-Face Frankenstein Plus Sabretooth vs. Kickpuncher - New This Week 5.14

Okay so this is a bit late since all this stuff came out yesterday. I'm currently right in the middle of my terrible 12 hour workday time of year and when I got home yesterday I laid on the floor, fell asleep and never got around to actually posting this thing.

So here goes, some very cool stuff out there this week, starting with the pair of titles Scream was able to license from Code Red:

Evilspeak is remarkably engaging, imaginative, and well crafted” – TV Guide

Life sucks for Stanley Coppersmith (Clint Howard, Rock ‘n’ Roll High School), a teenage outcast who’s bullied by everyone at a strict military academy. When Stanley discovers the crypt of a 16th Century Satanist beneath the chapel, he creates a computerized Black Mass that unleashes unholy revenge upon his tormentors. Now, all hell is about to break loose! Co-starring Joseph Cortese (American History X), Charles Tyner (Cool Hand Luke), R.G. Armstrong (Children of the Corn), Don Stark (That ‘70s Show), Lenny Montana (The Godfather), Richard Moll (House) and Haywood Nelson (What’s Happening), Evilspeak is not for the faint of heart.

Prior to its U.S. theatrical release, the distributor of the film requested that the graphic violence be cut to avoid an “X” rating from the MPAA. The film has been completely restored from a newly discovered 35mm inter-positive source including all of its long rumored scenes of bloody carnage. This new edition includes all-new extras including a new commentary by producer/director Eric Weston (Hyenas).

Micheal Myers (Tyler Mane) meets Jason Vorhees (Derek Mears) in Compound Fracture - which sounds like a really lame death metal band, but is in fact a Horror/Thriller from director Anthony J. Rickert-Epstein.

Michael left home when he was a teenager and never looked back. Now, after the death of his sister, Chloe, hes returning home with his fiancee Juliette and his angst ridden nephew Brandon. On arrival, they realize that home isnt exactly what it used to be. With high walls surrounding the house and security cameras in every nook and cranny its more of a military compound than anything else. Enter Gary, Michaels estranged father who, while happy to be reunited with his son and grandson, seems more distracted by other things. As the strange family reunion commences, an uninvited guest shows up and we learn bits and pieces about the real reason behind Chloes death and why Brandon is so closed off from Michael. This fractured family will have to come together to fight the ghosts of their pasts and make it out alive!

From director Carlos Tobalina comes one of the strangest hybrids of exploitation sub-genres ever released to the unsuspecting public. Combining the late 70s jungle movie craze with crime thriller and copious amounts of X rated action, JUNGLE BLUE tells the story of a group of sinister explorers hunting for fortune in the jungles of South America. Along the way they meet a tree-swinging wild man, his sex-crazed companion gorilla, and hoards of scantily clad natives.

Never released on video in the US, JUNGLE BLUE has been restored from 35mm camera negatives and is being presented uncut on DVD for the first time!

    Director: Carlos Tobalina
    79 minutes / 1978 / Color / AR: 1.85:1
    Features Include:
    + 16×9 Anamorphic | Region Free | MONO

Acclaimed director Wakefield Poole’s second feature, the surreal and trippy Bijou, set a new standard for explicit cinema when it opened in 1972. The film concerns a construction worker (Bill Harrison) who witnesses a car accident and pockets the female victim’s purse in which he discovers her invitation to a club named Bijou. There he enters a strange erotic world where dark fatasies becomes reality. A fever dream blending the erotic and the divine in equal parts, Bijou is a psychosexual puzzle that rewards multiple viewings.

Scanned at 2K from the original 16mm elements and fully restored, this new version of Bijou finally allows the film to be seen in all its original visual splendor.

    Director: Wakefield Poole
    75 minutes / 1972 / Color / AR: 1.33:1

The Triumphant Return of Gorgon Video - First Releae To Be Death Spa!

I saw a listing for a Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack of Death Spa on Diabolik a few months back and figured it must've been a mistake, but nope, according to Theater Thoughts Gorgon Video is making a comeback (with help from MPI) with their first release being the Blu-ray combo of Death Spa, which can be preordered here.

The new fitness club in town has everything a health nut could ever want: a variety of workout machines, classes taught by friendly (and frisky) instructors, and a state-of-the-art computer control system for maximum client comfort. Unfortunately, it’s also possessed by the evil spirit of the owner’s dead wife, and before long every dumbbell, leg press and rowing machine becomes a deadly weapon for her to enact bloody vengeance on the club’s beautiful members. Everyone gets a real workout from hell in DEATH SPA, a new exercise in terror starring William Bumiller (24, Boat Trip), Brenda Bakke (American Gothic), Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead) and Rosalind Cash (Omega Man).

This remastered reissue of the frighteningly fun 1989 shocker is available for the first time on DVD and Blu-ray – and both formats are included in this combo pack. Special features include audio commentary, a making-of featurette and trailers.

    DEATH SPA DVD/Blu-ray Combo
    Release Date: May 27, 2014
    SRP: $34.98
    Rating: Not rated
    Running time: 87 minutes

Death Spa is great fun, but hopefully the ultimate in terrible gym based horror films Killer Workout makes it to Blu-ray or even gets a decent DVD release soon.

Bloodsucking Freaks is Coming to Blu-ray 6/4

Troma is set to release Bloodsucking Freaks on Blu-ray June 3rd, and I just came across this sales sheet for the release which features a new HD transfer of the uncut version of the film and some recently unearthed deleted scenes. Also features a commentary with Eli Roth, and new interviews with Eli Roth and Chris Jericho, because why not? Seamus O'Brien and Luis De Jesus are sadly both quite dead, so I guess getting interviews with them might be difficult.

Check Out Scream's New Pumpkinhead Artwork

Scream Factory has just posted their newly designed cover for their upcoming Pumpkinhead release. Scream's covers can occasionally be kind of hit or miss, but I think they really nailed it with this one, this is pretty perfect in my opinion.

"We may be in "Summer of Fear" mode now but that doesn't mean we can't talk about our upcoming Fall slate too. Check out the new key art for our upcoming Collector's Edition of Stan Winston's classic PUMPKINHEAD! This spot-on vision comes to us from veteran Scream Factory artist Justin Osbourn (Prince of Darkness, Phantom of the Paradise, Lifeforce, etc.)

The blu-ray release is planned for September. Pre-order links on our site at http://www.shoutfactory.com/screamfactory should appear in June in which a limited edition 18" x 24" poster of the art you see here will be available exclusively through us with purchase.

More details on full extras will be revealed in the Summer so stay tuned!"
